Linguatec is an SME company, founded 1992 in Munich / Germany, with about 25 employees.

Products:

Linguatec focuses on three areas:

• Machine Translation; Linguatec markets the product ´Personal Translator´ which translates German-English and German-French and is the leading system in Germany, with a hybrid architecture using statistical and corpus-based extensions to a rule-based system backbone. A strong focus is research and innovation, mainly done based on the Linguatec corpus, with more than 1.5 bn word forms.
• Speech Dictation: Linguatec offers the ’VoicePro’ product line (general dictation, special systems for legal and medical domain). This product has scored best in the evaluation of Stiftung Warentest (German consumer magazine).
• Natural Language Tools, like dictionaries, phrase books, text mining, morphological analyzers and others. Linguatec runs a free dictionary portal under www.linguadict.de.

Linguatec was partner in several national and EC projects, like VIP-Advisor, MOVIES, Avatar-me and others, focusing on translation and terminology, as well as the integration of speech components into larger systems. In 2000 Linguatec received the Nokia Award for developing an innovative online translation application for WAP telephones. The European Commission has awarded Linguatec with the European Information Technology Prize in 1996, 1998 and 2004 for its leading-edge language technology solutions, Linguatec being the first company ever to have won this prestigious prize three times. Linguatec also carries out customer projects to develop terminology, multilingual dictionaries, machine translation components and text classification. Linguatec has significant know-how in issues of multilinguality (machine translation, cross lingual search, terminology), knowledge organisation (concept hierarchies, ontologies), and software development and integration. Linguatec also has know-how in integrating speech components into larger applications; this was done in several EU research projects.
