Hjælpemiddelinstituttet (HMI)Hjælpemiddelinstituttet (The Danish Centre for Assistive Technology) is the Danish national information, resource and research centre in the field of assistive technology. Hjælpemiddelinstituttets main purpose is to support local government and private organizations in providing qualified and efficient assistive technology services. The main target group is professionals engaged in providing assistive technology to persons with disabilities. Additional target groups are decision makers, researchers, suppliers, developers and users of assistive devices. Hjælpemiddelinstituttet has a total staff of around 37 and is funded by the Danish Ministry of Interior and Social Affairs and by income-generating activities. Hjælpemiddelinstituttet maintains and develop Hjælpemiddelbasen, www.hmi-basen.dk, an information system with information on more than 65,000 assistive devices and around 500 Danish suppliers. The system provides technical data and supplier information for a wide range of products. It assists practitioners in selecting and buying assistive devices and serves as inspiration for users of assistive technology and their relatives as well as provides them with an overview. |
