What is EASTIN?

EASTIN is a European network that offers information on assistive technology to all citizens. It is the most comprehensive web-service in Europe on assistive technology, due to the joint effort of the partners in the EASTIN project and to the European Commission which initially financed part of the work.
The core of the network is the EASTIN website www.eastin.info. This website provides, in all official languages of the European Union, and in a user-friendly and accessible manner, a complete set of information and guidance tools concerning assistive technology.

It includes information on over 50.000 assistive technology products available on the European market and over 5.000 manufacturers / suppliers; it also includes related info such as fact sheets and suggestions on assistive solutions for daily living problems.

Who is behind EASTIN?

The EASTIN network arises from the experience and knowledge gained by organisations working within the field of assistive technology in Denmark, UK, the Netherlands, Germany, Spain and Italy. Other Countries such as France and Belgium also joined the network. All partners run an established database in their country, which forms the basis of the EASTIN network. The founding partners have worked together for several years, to harmonise their databases according to common requirements, and to integrate each database into a single trans-national network.
The EASTIN network stems from the EASTIN project (2004-2006), co-funded by the European Commission as part of its eTEN programme, facilitating the deployment of trans-European telecommunications networks services on the European market.

Who is EASTIN made for?

In EASTIN any interested people can find useful information for their everyday life or work: end-users of assistive technology, such as people with disabilities and their families; professionals in health and social services; manufacturers or suppliers of assistive devices; researchers or technicians; public agencies involved in assistive technology provision.
